Want to become a designer?
Bridging The Gap is designed to equip graduates, school leavers, and career changers with the knowledge and skills necessary to transition into a Product design, UX design or any kind of Digital design role in an actual workplace.
If you’re new to design or trying to get into it - this is for you!
Become an effective designer
Learn what it takes to become a great designer & operate in actual workplaces.
We're not focussing on the fundamentals of design or using the tools - there are plenty of great courses out there that focus on how to ‘do’ design or use the software.
We’re going to teach you how to be effective by breaking down the barriers we see holding back new designers.
foundational Skills that employers expect
We’ll teach you what employers expect from their design teams, and how you can get ahead of the hiring process by demonstrating the skills & knowledge you need to truly hit the ground running on your first day.
Insider knowledge and practical skills
Learn the ins & outs of the design industry before you jump into the deep end. You’ll find out how the industry really works, how teams operate and how to become indispensable as a designer.
How to showcase your skills and strengths
A huge part of landing a new role is standing out. We’ll help you do that by helping you to play to your strengths and use your new industry knowledge to design your own strategy for getting hired.
Session sneak peak
the Business of design
Overview of how the design industry works, how design is valued & how you’ll need to learn to create it as a designer. This is our intro session where you'll get to know your cohort & start collaborating with everyone as a team.
Design in the wild
How design works in different industries and businesses. Understand how designers work as teams and with other teams of people.
What's the problem
Putting design frameworks, methods & skills into practice - and learning how & when to apply each in order to be ready for opportunities you’re able to identify.
It's not about you
You'll learn to embrace ambiguity in projects. Start getting comfortable being uncomfortable, learn to develop resilience in your approach & interactions, work with team mates and develop good practices for both giving and receiving feedback.
Take your chances
This week brings together skills from previous sessions with everyone participating in more in-depth group design activities. We’ll dive into detailed problem solving and opportunity spotting techniques & practices to help you in your real world projects.
Standing out
We’ll recap the previous 5 weeks & give you a chance to demonstrate the skills & methods you’ve learnt along the way. We’ll have dedicated time to address areas of design that you’d like to cover in more detail & a segment to cover CV/Resume advice, portfolio best practice and other methods for standing out to employers.
If you’re ready to ditch the video tutorials on how to use the tools and are ready to learn how to operate as a designer in the real world, this cohort is for you!

FAQ's
How do the sessions take place?
All sessions are 100% remote video workshops using a digital whiteboard tool (Miro).
Do we have to attend all of the sessions?
Yes, you're required to be present for each session, with video cameras on. (It’s a cohort with other humans, faces & interaction is important!).
What if I miss a session?
Sessions will be recorded for the cohort to refer back to - if you miss a session, it’s on you to catch up & get your homework done.
What languages do you support?
Sessions will be taught in English (other languages coming soon).
What do I need to participate?
An internet connection, a laptop or tablet that supports video calls, and a quiet place to join the call each week. Joining from your phone isn't going to work for the best interactive experience - but we're working on that for future.
What else do I need to know?
We’ll be conducting this in the same way modern workplaces operate, so be present, put in the effort you expect to get back, and have fun.
